Rilakkuma

Rilakkuma,(リラックマ - Rirakkuma), a combination of the Japanese pronunciation of relax and the Japanese world for bear, is a Japanese character produced by the San-X company who debuted in 2003.
Rilakkuma is brown with a big head and an angelic cute little face.  It is a very popular pet since its first product was launched in September 2003.  Today, Rilakkuma stuff is everywhere and you can see it and but it isn just about any corner of Japan.  It was designed by Kondouaki, for a company called San-X.

We don't know what sort of animal he is, because sometimes his blue-polka-dotted underwear pokes through the zipper on his back.  He has several outfits, does laundry.  His favorite foods are dango, pancakes, omurice and custard pudding.  True to his name, he enjoys relaxing and his favorite things include sleeping, lying around, watching television, listening to music and soaking in hot springs.  Despite some confusion that often occurs relating to Rilakkuma and his friend Korilakkuma's genders, it is stated on the San-X site that he is in fact a male, while Korilakkuma is indeed female.

Ko-Rilakkuma is Rilakkuma's friend, who is a smaller child-like white bear with a michievous personality, a bit younger than Rilakkuma.  She's always pestering Rilakkuma, sometimes trying to unzip the zipper on his back as a prank.  She looks like a polar bear, but it's not very clear where she's from, since she has buttons down her chest, and so it seems that she is also not a real bear.  She likes strawberries, apples and cherries, and loves playing with stuffed ducks and penguins.  She listens to reallyloud music and somtimes dresses up as a rabbit or cow.

Kiitoitori is a yellow bird who likes scolding Rilakkuma for lounging about, though the bear could care less.  He often fights with Ko-Rilakkuma, but they also play together.  Kiiroitori likes cleaning house and, will put any coins he finds away to save up money.
